THIS POST AND ASSIGNMENT NEED TO BE COMPLETED BY December 3rd  9:00 AM.

Excerpt from the movie:
"You see, I do something real good for three people. And then when they ask how
they can pay it back, I say they have to Pay It Forward...to three more people. Each. So, nine people get helped. Then those people have to do twenty-seven." He turned on the calculator, punched in a few numbers. "Then it sort of spreads out, see, to eighty-one, then two hundred forty-three, then seven hundred twenty-nine, then two thousand, one hundred eighty-seven. See how big it gets?"

Some possible ideas include:
·        Volunteer at a soup kitchen, hospital, care home
·        Clean up your community/school yard/park
·        Donate Food/Clothing/Toys/Books/Christmas gifts

·        Write ‘Thank you’ notes to people who have helped you

These are just possibilities. Students are asked to be creative and try to make a difference in someone’s life.

Weekend Proportion Post update

I erred in class when I told you this was due today.  It is due Sunday at midnight.  On Monday morning I would like to have all of them done and ready to mark.  Here is a link to the assignment if you still are having difficulties.

Please read the instructions carefully.  You will receive marks for each part of the assignment.  It is recommended that you complete as many parts as you can to get the best mark.  I am going to assign a BONUS question.

I want you to use one of these pictures and insert it at your post.

Once the picture is in at the post you are going to write your own proportion question and answer it.

Think of all the picture questions you have been answering in comment form over the last few weeks.

Here are the photos.

Kid in the Woods IMG_4416 Woodpile Woodpile 2

We will be marking these together so you will have to have something published.  If your computer goes boom or there are issues you can receive partial marks for having the assignment done on paper.  Remember to back up your posts often.  Save frequently so that you do not have a catastrophic OOPS my post is missing.

See y'all on Monday.  Work hard this weekend.

A cross country loop is approximately 1.2 kilometres. How many loops make up a marathon?

What pace would I hold for each of those x-country loops?

Manitoba Marathon Relay Information

Welcome to the 2012 Manitoba Marathon Relay

It is fantastic that you have completed the journey of becoming a relay participant.  Now it is time for your parents to get you to the race on time.  Here are some helpful parent hints:
  • Do a practice run of where the starting point of your relay leg is.  Drive to this spot and time it from your house.  Expect delays as traffic will be detoured on Race Day.  The maps below are linked to the map in your race package.
  • READ the race package.  It has excellent ideas about where to park and how to get to the exchange zones.
  • I have erred on the side of being to fast in my time estimates.  As the race progresses my times may be very fast.  Expect to wait up to an hour if the weather is hot and the runners run slower than expected.
  • Our relays all are between 5066 and 5072.  In each exchange zone there will be signs with numbers (0-200, 1000 to 2000 etc) Please have the Sargent Park Students standing in between the sign markers that are appropriate for numbers 5066 and 5072).
  • Pin the relay number to the front of a singlet or cool t-shirt.  Make sure it is in a position that does not cause rubbing or discomfort.
  •  Make sure that they drink lots of fluid on a hot day.
  • If one relay member does not show up the entire team is unable to race.  Have a cell number of the member ahead and behind you in the relay. If you wait and no one shows up you either run an extra leg or call ahead and tell them that the team has been disqualified.
  • There is lots of food and refreshments after the relay leg. Take advantage of these snacks and drinks.

Here are the relay teams and their expected finishing times. Click on the image for a larger view.
The purple times are very important.  That is when you NEED to be at the start of your relay leg. This time should give you plenty of time to be there before the previous runner arrives.  Please be at the relay exchange by that time.

Relay Team Numbers
5066 Sargent Park Girls 1

5068 Sargent Park Coed 1
5069 Sargent Park Coed 2
5070 Sargent Park Boys 2

5072 Sargent Park Boys 1

Timing Chip
The first runner receives a timing chip.  It is a number attached to a belt.  This belt must be passed to each relay runner.  Without this belt the time will not register and we will not receive a time.  It is very important that each runner continue with the belt.  It is simple to wear and goes around their waist.  At the relay exchange zone please ensure that the belt gets passed from one relay member to the next.
