Question 12:

A)We estimate the side length to be 3.3 because 11 is in between the perfect squares 9 and 16, and 11 is closer to 9.

B)The side length on a calculator is 3.31.

C)The carpet will not fit because 11x11=121m and his room is only 20m
which is clearly way off.

Question 12:
a)My estimation of the side length of the rug is 3.3m

b) The approximation on the calculator is 3.31662479

c) The rug will fit because the side length of the rug is approximately 3.3m and the shortest side length in the room is 4m. The area of the rug is also only 11m2 and the area of the room is 4mx5m=20m2.

Triangle A:
a2+b2=c2 (c2= 15cm2 15cm2=225cm2)
9cm2+12cm2=c2
(9cmx9cm)+(12cmx12cm)=c2
81cm2+144cm2=225cm2
225cm2=225cm2
It is a right triangle.

Triangle B:
a2+b2=c2 (c2= 11cm2 11cm2=121cm2)
7cm2+8cm2=c2
(7cmx7cm)+(8cmx8cm)=c2
49cm2+64cm2=113cm2
121cm2 does not equal 113cm2 so it is not a right triangle.

Triangle C:
a2+b2=c2 (c2= 25cm2 25cm2=625cm2)
7cm2+24cm2=c2
(7cmx7cm)+(24cmx24cm)=c2
49cm2+576cm2=625cm2
625cm2=625cm2
It is a right triangle.

Triangle D:
a2+b2=c2 (c2= 34cm2 34cm2=1156cm2)
16cm2+30cm2=c2
(16cmx16cm)+(30cmx30cm)=c2
256cm2+900cm2=1156cm2
1156cm2=1156cm2
It is a right triangle.

Triangle E:
a2+b2=c2 (c2= 14cm2 14cm2=196cm2)
10cm2+11cm2=c2
(10cmx10cm)+(11cmx11cm)=c2
100cm2+121cm2=221cm2
196cm2 does not equal 221cm2 so it is not a right triangle.

Question 12:

a)My estimate of the side length is 3.3m.

b)Calculator estimate is √11 = 3.31662479.

c)The rug will fit since the side length (3.3m) is less than the side length of the shorter part of the wall. Also the area of the rug is 11m2 and the area of the room is 20m2.

Question 14:

Triangle A is a right triangle:
a2+b2=c2
(9x9)+(12x12)=(15x15)
81cm2+144cm2=225cm2
225cm2=225cm2

Triangle B is not a right triangle :
a2+b2=c2
(7x7)+(8x8)=(11x11)
49cm2+64cm2=113cm2
113cm2≠121cm2

b)The side length is 3.31m².
c)Yes, it will fit because 3.31m² is smaller than the area of his bedroom.

Question 14:
A; a² + b² = c²
9² + 12² = 15²
(9x9) + (12x12) = (15x15)
81cm + 144cm = 225cm
225cm² = 225cm²
It is a right triangle.

B; a² + b² = c²
7² + 8² = 11²
(7x7) + (8x8) = (11x11)
49cm + 64cm = 121cm
113cm² = 121cm²
It is not a right triangle.

C; a² + b² = c²
7² + 24² = 25²
(7x7) + (24x24) = (25x25)
49cm + 576cm = 625cm
625cm² = 625cm²
It is a right triangle.

D; a² + b² = c²
16² + 30² = 34²
(16x16) + (30x30) = (34x34)
256cm + 900cm = 1156cm
1156cm² = 1156cm²
It is a right triangle.

E; a² + b² = c²
10² + 11² = 14²
(10x10) + (11x11) = (14x14)
100cm + 121cm = 196cm

a)√11=3.2
I got 3.2 because 11 is between 9 and 16.Their square roots are 3 and 4. That means the square root is between those 2 digits. Since it's closer to 9, it must be 3.*, I got the .2 because in the numberline 11 is the second number from 9.

b)√11= 3.31

c)The rug will fit because the area of of is bedroom is 20m² and the area of the rug is only 11m²
.That means the rug is smaller than the bedroom which is why the rug can fit.

QUESTION 12:

a.) 3 x 3 = 9
4 x 4 = 16

9 is closer to 11. But in this question, they're looking for side length.
Since the side length of 9 is 3, we'll use 3 for our whole number.
3. ___
Now, we just need to find out one decimal to replace the blank. To find the answer to that, count the intervals between 9 and 11.
11 - 9 = 2

The estimated answer will be,3.2 m

b.) By using my calculator, I multiplied 3.2 by itself to check it.
3.2 x 3.2 = 10.24

c.) Yes, the rug will fit because the sides of the rug is smaller than the size of his room.

QUESTION 14:
TRIANGLE A
a² + b² = c²
9² + 12² = 15²
(9x9) + (12x12) = 15x15
81 cm² + 144 cm² = 225 cm²
225 cm² = 225 cm²
This IS a right triangle.

TRIANGLE B
a² + b² = c²
7² + 8² = 11²
(7x7) + (8x8) = 11x11
49 cm² + 64 cm² = 121 cm²
113 cm² ≠ 121 cm²
This IS NOT a right triangle.

TRIANGLE C
a² + b² = c²
7² + 24² = 25²
(7x7) + (24x24) = 25x25
49 cm² + 576 cm² = 625 cm²
625 cm² = 625 cm²
This IS a right triangle.

TRIANGLE D
a² + b² = c²
16² + 30² = 34²
(16x16) + (30x30) = 34x34
206 cm² + 900 cm² = 1156 cm²
1156 cm² = 1156 cm²
This IS a right triangle.

TRIANGLE E
a² + b² = c²
10² + 11² = 14²
(10x10) + (11x11) = 14x14
100 cm² + 121 cm² = 196 cm²
221 cm² ≠ 196 cm²
This IS NOT a right triangle.

Question 12:
A)My estimation on the side length is 3.3m because the 2 perfect squares close to 11 is 9 and 16. (3x3=9) and (4x4=16). I estimated a number in between those 2 numbers and came up with 3.3m.

B)The calculator shows 3.31662479

C)Yes the carpet will fit because the side length of the rug is approximately 3.3m and so the shortest side length in the room is 4m. The area of the rug is also only 11m2 and the area of the room is 4mx5m=20m2.
