16 Bananas are $2.40

What I did was I divided 9 by 9 which was 1 then I divided 1.35 (the cost of 9 bananas) which was0.15. After that I multiplied 0.15 by 16 and got 2.40

16 bananas are $2.40.

bananas 9 16
--------- ---------- = ---------
$ $1.35 $2.40

You can divide 16 by 9 which is 1.77.
So then you multiply $1.35 by 1.7(repeating) which is 2.40.

You can double check your answer by doing it vertically.

Another way on doing it is to find the unit:

bananas 9 1
--------- ---------- = ---------
$ $1.35 $0.15
9 divided by 9 is 1
1.35 divided by 9 is 0.15

bananas 1 16
--------- ---------- = ---------
$ $0.15 $2.40

1 multiplied by 16 is 16
0.15 multiplied by 16 is 2.40.

16 bananas = $2.40

1) I first divided 16 and 9 to give me an answer of 1.7. (9x1.7=16) Then I multiplied 1.7 to the bottom. (1.35x1.7=2.40)

2) To make sure my answer on the top was correct, I divided 9 and 9 so it would be 1. I divided 9 on the bottom to get me 0.15. After this, i just multiplied 0.15 and 16 to give me an answer of $2.40.

I divded 9 by 9 which gave me 1 then i did the same to the cost of 9 bananas so i got $0.15 then i multiplied it by 16 which gave me $2.40

another way is i divded 16 by 9 which gave me 1.777777777777778 yea i know its long so I multiplied it by $1.35 which also gave me $2.40

16 bananas are $2.40.

Because 16 divided by 9 is 1.77 repeated but only took the 2 digits by the decimal, then I multiplied $1.35 by 1.7 (repeated)
and got 2.39 and rounded it by the nearest number and got $2.40.

Another way is finding the unit

9 divided by 9 is 1, then divide 16 by $1.35 divided by 9 is 0.15.
Then 1 divided by 16 is 16 and 0.15 multiplied by 16 is $2.40.

Mary816 said...

16 bananas costs $ 2.40

# of bananas 9 16
------------- ----- = --------
money $1.35 $2.40

16 ÷ 9 = 1.7777... Just round it off to 1.78

9x1.78=16.02, but if you round it it'll be 16, so it's all good!

1.35 x 1.78 = 2.40 if rounded to the nearest hundredth.

Another way to figure out how much 16 bananas are, is to figure out how much 1 banana is.

# of bananas 9 1
-------------- ----- ------
money $1.35 $0.15

9 ÷ 9 = 1

$1.35 ÷ 9 = $0.15

One banana = $ 0.15

Then...

# of bananas 1 16
------------- ------ -------
money $0.15 $ 2.40

1x16=16
0.15x16=2.40

How to check your answers are.. to do that less or greater thingy, or by doing it the up and down way!

~The question was how much does 16 bananas cost?

~First I wrote down what I knew from the whole question.

~9 bananas
~$1.35
~16 bananas

The first way to figure this out is..
x 1.77
------->
bananas 9 = 16
------- --- ----
Money 1.35 2.38
---------->
x1.77
Because it 16 divided by 9 = 1.7777 repeated i just left it at 1.77.

The second way is this...
÷9
---->
bananas 9 = 1
------- --- --
money 1.35 .15
----->
÷9
In this proportional statement we are finding first of how much is 1 banana.Next we have to find how much is 16.
x 16
----->
bananas 1 = 16
-------- -- ----
money .15 2.40
----->
x16
so 16 of them equal 2 dollars and 40 cents. In my first one I got 2.38 because 16 ÷ 9 = 1.77777 repeated so I put 1.77. And I still got a number just near to 2.40 dollars. I got 2.38 dollars.

16 bananas will cost $2.40.

Banana 9 16
1) ------- ------ = -------
$ $1.35 $2.40
I divided 1.6 by 9, which gave me the answer of 1.7. Then, I multiplied 9 by 1.7 which is 16. Since I multiplied 9 by 1.7 I have to multiply $1.35 by 1.7, giving me the answer of $2.40.

I know that this is correct because I divided it vertically and the answer was the same.

2)
Banana 9 1
--------- ------- = --------
$ $1.35 $0.15

Banana 1 16
-------- ------- = -------
$ $0.15 $2.40

I divided 9 by 9 to get 1. Then, I divided $1.35 by 9, giving me the answer of $0.15. After, I rewrote the number 1/$0.15. The next step I did was 1 x 16 = 16. Since I multiplied 16 on top I have to multiply $0.15 by 16, which is $2.40.

I know this is correct because I did it vertically and it was the same answer.

16 bananas are $2.40.

1) Bananas 9 1
------- ------ = -----
$ $1.35 $0.15
First I divided $1.35 by 9 and I got $0.15. Then I put it under the number 1. Now I know $0.15 is the cost for each banana.

Bananas 1 16
------- ----- = ------
$ $0.15 $2.40
Then rewrote the number 1/0.15 then I put 16 beside the 1. Next I multiply 1 by 16 and got 16 then I multiply 0.15 by 16 and got the answer of $2.40. 16 bananas are $2.40.

2) Bananas 9 16
------- ----- = ------
$ $1.35 $2.40
Another way to solve this is to first divide 16 by 9 and will give you 1.7 repeated. Then multiply 9 by 1.7 repeated and you'll get 16, then do the same to the bottom. Multiply $1.35 by 1.7 repeated and you should get $2.40.
I know it is correct because I did it vertically.

16 bananas = $2.40

The first way I got this answer was I found out that 16 divided by 9 equaled 1.777777778 so it would be the same as 9x 1.777777778=16.
Then you know that 9 bananas are $1.35, so what you do to the top you must do to the bottom. Then $1.35x1.777777778= $2.40, so 16 bananas equals $2.40

The second way I did this was I divided 9 by 1.35 and it equaled 6.666666667. So then 9 by 6.666666667 and got 1.35. Then 16 divided by 6.666666667 equals $2.40!

The first way of figuring this question out is dividing the number of bananas which is 9 and dividing it by 16 and you would get 1.78. To make sure it's the answer you can multiply 9 by 1.78 and get 16.02 just round it by the nearest whole and you get 16. Then, you multiply 1.78 by the cost of 9 bananas which is $1.35 and you get the answer $2.40.
The second way of figuring this question out is finding how much a unit cost. 9 divided by a unit (1) is 9. Divide the cost of 9 bananas which is $1.35 by 9 and the answer is $0.15. Now you do a second proportion statement. Now you know what 1 banana cost which is $0.15. Multiply 1 by 16 and you get the answer 16. Now, multiply the bottom part by the cost of 1 banana which is $0.15 by 16 and you get the answer $2.40.

16 bananas cost $2.40

1. Divide 16 by 9 and the answer will be 1.7777... but you can round it off to 1.78, then you multiply 9 by 1.78 and you get 16.02 but you can round it off to 16. After that, you multiply 1.35 by 1.78 which will equal to 2.403 but you can round it off to 2.40 .

2. You can divide 9 by 9 and divide 1.35 by 9 which would equal to 0.15 (1 banana = $0.15). Then you multiply 1 by 16 and multiply 0.15 by 16, which would equal to 2.40 .

One way to prove it is to divide 16 by 9 which is 1.77 (repeating). After you multiply $1.35 by 1.77(repeating) you will get to $2.40.

The other way to prove it is by doing it the vertical way/finding the unit, 9 divided by 9 is 1. You also divide $1.35 by 9 and that will get you to cost of one banana which is $0.15. $0.15 multiplied by 16 is $2.40

That's how I got my answer.

I got this answer by dividing 16 by 9 and got 1.777777778. 9x1.777777778=16. Then I did the same thing to the bottom, $1.35x1.777777778=$2.40!

Another way I did this is dividing it vertically. So what I did was I divided 9 by 1.35 and got 6.666666667. 9 divided by 6.666666667=$1.35. Then I did the same to the other side vertically, 16 divided by 6.666666667= $2.40!

My answer is correct because I used a calculator to help me divide my numbers.

16 bananas cost $2.40.
This is one way of finding out if it's true.

1.)
bananas 9 1
-------- ------ = -------
$ $1.35 $0.15

First, I divided $9 by nine to get 1. Then, I divided $1.35 by 9 and got the answer $0.15. This is how much one banana cost. So, in order to find how much 16 bananas cost, we have to make another word ratio.

bananas 1 16
-------- ------ -------
$ $0.15 $2.40

Then, you multiply 1 by 16 to get the # 16. After that, you multiply $0.15 by 16 and you get the answer $2.40. This proves that 16 bananas cost $2.40. Another way of finding out is this.

2.)
bananas 9 16
--------- ----- ------
$ $1.35 $2.40

In this one, you divide 16 by 9, so you get 1.777777 repeated. So then you multiply $1.35 by 1.7777777 repeated and you get $2.39. Then, you round it off to the nearest hundredth and you get $2.40. This also proves that 16 bananas cost $2.40.

In order to get the answer you have to make two proportion statement.

1. First proportion statement should be knowing how much one bananas cost. What I did is that I divided $9 by 9 to get 1. Then, I divided $1.35 by 9 and got the answer $0.15, which is the cost of one banana. So, now we know how much one banana cost we have to make another proportion statement to find out how much 16 bananas cost. Your proportion statement should look like this:

bananas 9 1
________ ________=________

$ $1.35 $0.15

2. In the second statement divide 1 by 16 to get quotient of 16. Then, do it on the other side, divide $0.15 by 16 and get $2.40, which is the answer to this problem. Your proportion statement should look like this:

bananas 1 16
________ ________=________

$ $0.15 $2.40

- 16 bananas cost $2.40.

Another way is that I divided 9 divided by 9 = 1. 1.35 divided 9 equals 0.15. 1 multiplied by 16 = 16.
16 x 0.15 = 2.4.

16 bananas would cost $9.45. This is how I got my answer
First way: I used a proportion statement.
Word ration: Bananas (up), cost (down).
9= 16 (16/1.77 equals 9)
1.35= 9.45 (1.35 multiply 1.77 equals to 2.4)

Second way:
Word ratio: Bananas (up), cost (down).
9= 1 (9/9 equals 9)
1.35= 0.15 (1.35/9 equals 0.15)

1= 16 (1 x 16 equals 16)
0.15= 2.40 (0.15 x 16 equals 2.40)

I know my answer is correct because if you divide 9 to 1.35 you will 6.66 and if you divide 16 to 2.4 you will get the same answer.
