Comments Comments Comments

As many of you have noticed there are lots of comments at our posts. It is important to read the comments that you have received. Your classmates and people from around the world have spent time reading your post and leaving you feedback.

Blogger etiquette would have you responding to the comments you have received. A simple thanks and telling them that you have done the corrections they have suggested would be a great starting point.

Now how do you leave a good comment. Most of you are excellent in telling the author how to make a better post. You are great editors and find many small spelling and math mistakes. But does it end there??? Lets try to do more.

Scribes are expected to find a video and a link for their post. You can also leave a video or link in your comment. To do this you will need to use some html code. The code to leave a link is like this

So a link to Sargent Park Mathzone would look like this

Do not forget to use the to finish.

and would look like this after you published it in your comment

Sargent Park.

Try to spice up your comments by leaving links and having conversations with others who have commented.

Comments from other students

Many of your youtube videos are being watched by other students from around the world.  Please if you get a comment click on their link and return the favour.  Here is a comment on one of your videos

Turnstudent27 from Wingham,Ont: What an amazing video. This video has caught my attention and is making me want to do something about this topic. Why did you guys pick this issue of justice? I had recently done a project on gender discrimination in India, and this video relates to my project. I really enjoyed the beginning of this video it was very unique! Very well done!

Child Abuse has always been a major issue in our world and I think you reflected on this Social Issue amazingly. Adding the transitions in your video added to it. I also liked how you added the 3 dots in because it added some suspense to the video. I do not know anyone that is abused I think many children are and it needs to be stopped. This video really made me want to do something about this issue. Why did you decide to pick child abuse as your issue? Turnstudent27 from Wingham,Ont

It would be great to comment on other videos too.  You should comment on our videos and see what the difference was between version 1 and 2.  Great work on your 2 minutes to make a Difference.  I hope you enjoyed the project.

Comments Others need comments

Many schools approach me and ask for comments.  We have two schools that would like to have comments at their blogs. Commenting is the most important part of blogging.  YOU provide audience.  It is important to help other bloggers by reading and commenting.

The first is a school in Virden Manitoba.

They are a Grade 8 Math Class and are using the same text as us.  Please leave comments behind for them talking about
  • the content of the post
  • the Math being taught
  • the format of the post, images, text colour etc.

We also have a school in the former Yugoslavia.  They are a Grade 7 Science Class.  Please do the same for them.  It is important to read the post, understand the content and then leave a comment.  They will be doing work that is different than yours.  Please

This is the Grade 7 Blog

This is the Grade 8 Blog

Please leave behind comments at as many blog posts as you can.  Please include a link to one of your blog posts.  It is important to share your knowledge.  All of you are excellent bloggers.  Please be a gracious reader and commenter.

Help your blog mentors.

Over the past few weeks there have been mentors commenting on your posts. These preservice teachers from the University of Regina also have blogs. It would be great if you took the time to leave comments behind at their blogs.

Remember not everyone has the same sense of humor as you. It is important that you think before you comment. Thanks for blogging with me and being some of the best commentors ever.

Here are your blog mentors

Jocelyn Skogberg

Nicole VanCaeseele

Sara Thibeault

When nobody comments it is hard to stay motivated and want to learn. Part of the reason we blog is to have others read our posts. You would be amazed at how many people read your posts. Most of them do not leave you a comment behind. It is like preforming for this audience below. All empty seats.

These preservice teachers gave you an audience. Now it is your turn. Please leave comments when you read their blogs. Be their audience. Fill the stadium that is their learning blog and motivate them to learn.

Thanks in advance. You really are the best blogging classes ever.

What makes a good comment?

What is a comment? Why do we comment? I would like to commend the multitude of students that have been leaving comments behind at students blogs. I appreciate the time you take reading and being an audience for your fellow students. I have a few concerns though.

When one comments would it be possible to use some proper grammar. I would love to see capital letters, periods and sentences. You are doing such an awesome job. Proper grammar would make your comments even better.

What does it take to make a good comment. Is leaving a smilie and a few words enough? This is a tough question. I need you to read and comment but you also need to leave content behind. Is it possible to read the post and add to it. How would you make the post better.. Are there links that would explain the content to the reader better than the scribe has left behind.

Do not stop commenting but could you please write in sentences, add content and then read another post from another room. You are the most impressive group of bloggers I have ever had the pleasure of teaching. You make me proud everyday. Thanks for commenting and being part of a learning community. Lets set the bar high and do an even better job.

Comments

Welcome students to the third round of Scribe Posts. Your scribes get better all the time and I am looking forward to this next batch of posts.

As we discussed in class on Friday I expect all scribes to create a link in their post showing me where you left a comment outside of our class blogs. I will include an instructional screencast to show you what I expect.

Even if you are not a scribe I encourage you to leave comments at these sites. The more comments the better.

Here are the Classes that I know of that use Scribe posts in Math.

Schools that Scribe
S3 Math from Scotland
Linden Meadows 8M
Linden Meadows 8Z

GeoBlog from Alabama
PreCal 30s Danial Mac
PreCal 40S Danial Mac
APCalc Danial Mac
Math Challenger

There will also be a link to classes that scribe on your sidebar.

It is important to show student from around the city and around the world that you are an audience for their writing. I know you will use appropriate language and leave creative, positive comments that will inspire those students to continue to blog.

Include in your comments what you liked about the post you have read. Include any suggestions you have for their posts.

As I have said already. The most important thing about a comment is that people know that you are reading.
