Bob for Ratio

Here are the instructions to complete your BOB on ratios.  Remember this is a way of preparing for a test.  Please take time to do a good job on understanding your ratio unit.

1. Title Must include BOB and RATIO.
2. labels, displayname, bob, ratio
3. You must include one of the pictures from today's lesson.  The easiest way to include it is to use its location address.  Click the picture link provided, right click the picture, copy location.  Once you have copied the location add image to the blog but use add url not browse my computer.  Paste the url into the window and click ok.  Your picture should be there.  (Just get the picture on the post)
4. Once the picture is at your blog you must create the following.  3 part to part ratios, 2 part to total ratios and 2 three part ratios.  Please for each have a word ratio and ratio notation.
5. Choose one ratio that you have done and show how to write that ratio in ratio notation, fraction, decimal and percent form.
6. Choose one ratio that you have written and show how to create equivalent ratios.
7. Finally create 3 questions that you want people to answer in the comments. Do not make them to hard or too easy. 
8. Answer your questions in the comment section of your post.  
9. Go and answer as many questions as you can about ratio at other posts in your room and the other rooms in grade 8.
10. Look for cheats in comments.  I will post helping hints and questions in comments around the blogs.

Fraction Blogging on blogging

On Tuesday you will have your final test on fractions. You may use your blogging on blogging post as a memory minder for the test. The more effort you put into your BOB the more you will be able to use for the test.

Blogging on blogging is a review of the unit. What went well for you, what did not. You are expected to reflect on your work habits during the unit. Did you do your work, all of it some of it etc.

This blogging on blogging is different. You can add images and other helpful hints to be a study guide for the test. Take advantage of this if you need to.

You need to include the following information in your BOB about the unproject.

1. Did you like the unproject.
2. Did the unproject make you work harder than you usually would?
3. What did you like best about the unproject?
4. What would you change about the next unproject?
5. Did the unproject make you learn more because you were doing a different type of project.

9. Jim found out that after working for 9 months he had earned 6 days of vacation time. How manydays will he have earned after working for two years?

10 Zachary and Christian have different math teachers at school. Zachary said to his friend
� Christian, I have more of my homework done than you. I did eighteen out of thirty-four problems so � � � far. Christian disagreed saying, No way! I already did _____ out of forty-eight! Assuming Christian was correct, at least how many problems must he have done to have completed a greater percentage of his assigned homework?

11. Timothy has just started his collection of plastic cars and obtained twenty-three new plastic cars. Isaac has fifty-six old plastic cars. Aaron has one hundred one old plastic cars. If all their collections were combined, what would be the ratio of old plastic cars to new plastic cars? Reduce your answer to a ratio of the form X:1 and round X to the nearest tenth.

12. Mr. Quirk had approximately 58% of the tests graded. (a) Written as a fraction with twenty-six as a denominator, approximately what fraction of the tests did he have graded? (b) What was the approximate graded test:ungraded test ratio?

13. Which is bigger, a third of 36 or one-fourth of 96?

14. It was recently estimated by the Extraterrestrial Alien Monitoring Agency, that unregistered extraterrestrials outnumber registered ones by about seven-to-five. If there are a total of 2,280 extraterrestrials, about how many of them are registered?

15. Smallville had a great football team last year. They outperformed their opponents in almost every category of play. One of their more impressive statistics was that, on average, they outscored their opponents by 3:1 in every game they played. If they scored an average of 18 points per game, what was the average number of points scored by their opponents per game?

16. If it takes 1 cup of flour to make 6 cookies, how many cookies can you make with 6
cups of flour?

17. If 3 apples cost 29¢, how much do 45 apples cost?

18. Callie asks her fellow sixth-grade students to name their favorite flavor of ice
cream. She finds that 3 out of every 8 students prefer strawberry to vanilla. If there are
160 students, how many prefer strawberry?

19. Alejandro and Skylar went deep-sea fishing. They discovered that 4 out of every 5
fish they caught were flounder. If they caught 40 fish, how many were flounder?

20. The sixth grade class is selling pencils. They are putting a ratio of 2 red pencils for
every 3 blue pencils in a bag. If the students have 100 red pencils, how many blue
pencils do they need?

Assessment week

February 5th to 9th is assessment week. You could call it your mini exam week. Will have a quiz on Monday, Unit test on Wednesday and a Cumulative Test on Friday. All Material for the first 2 assessments can be found in your Blue Booklet, and House Unit.

You need to complete a blog post called Blogging on Blogging. Mr K's students call them BOB's. Click on the link to see how to create a BOB. You need to tell me what you understood in the Proportion unit and what you did not understand in the proportion unit. The BOB will be worth 4 Marks on your test. By doing it you have completed a test question!!


The cumulative test will cover everything we have done since the beginning of the year. You can use the blog to help you study.
