OMG the Second Term has arrived!! and so have the Aliens

Welcome to the first blog post of the second term.  It will serve as your wrap up of chapter 2 in the textbook.

Proportion and Ratio and Rate

An alien has landed from another planet.  He is a scout for his planet.  They plan on taking over the earth.

His computer will send a signal back to his home planet unless you type in how to solve 3 proportional reasoning questions.

To help you out use 3 problems from pages 67, 68 or 69 in your textbook.

You need to explain how you solved the questions using pictures and diagrams (show the ratio tables or equivalent fractions you used).

The assignment one more time.

1. title it How I stopped an Alien Invasion using  Proportion  (make a better title if you want)
2. Label it alienstory, proportion
3. Include 3 problems from pages67, 68, 69 in your textbook.
4. Have fun creating a great story but it is secondary to the math knowledge you need to show. 
5. If you want to include pictures you can use this site to look for interesting images.  Remember when you use images to cite them properly and only use images you are allowed to. (cc or creative commons)
6. Flickrcc or you can try compfight but make sure you have the creative commons search on.
   

Have fun finding pictures that make your story better.  Some of the best searches happen when you search for pictures of adjectives or adverbs.

This is due Monday.

Sorry that I am sick but here is your introductionto Proportion.

I am still sick so you need to listen to these videos and figure out what you need to do.  All the work will happen in part 2.3 of your textbook on pages 63 to 67.  I have 2 short videos for you and then one video explaining your homework.  In case they do not work here is what you need to do.

Read Pages 63 to 66.  Understand that a proportion shows 2 equivalent ratios

Next you have to be able to write your proportion in different ways, fraction from, ratio form or decimal form.  This is not hard you have done it all before.

You need to use the two did you know activities in your work today as examples for your foldable.

1. Finish your foldable.  Use the information on page 66 do help you define proportion.  Then use the two Show you know examples to add to your knowledge on the foldable.
2. Complete Questions 1 to 5 in your notebook on page 66.

Here are the 3 videos.  Watch one then do the work.  Start the second video only when most of you are done your "show you know."
Finally watch the third video to have the homework explained.

Rate Growing Post Instructions Part 2

First things first.  You have a test tomorrow.  Please make sure you study and have completed pages 16 and 17 in your homework book.  This growing post counts as a BOB for this unit.

A growing post is named growing for a reason.  You will now add to your last post to complete the growing post.

 

These are the Grade 8 ingredients for Spaghetti Sauce.  This recipe serves 4 people. 

1)  What would the recipe look like if it had to serve 10 people?  Show your calculations.

2)  What would the recipe look like if you had to only serve 1 person? Show your calculations.

When you are done your post please publish it.  Make sure you have the correct labels, title and you have checked your answers.
